A J Akoto is a London-based poet, writer and artist of Ghanaian heritage.

Her debut anthology of poetry, Unmothered, will be published by Arachne Press in May 2023.

An intimate and unflinching collection, Unmothered tracks the complex bind of mother-daughter relationships, and the complications of womanhood.

Through separation and attempts to mend, longing, the fluidity of myth and story-telling in defining histories and identities, Unmothered collapses the elision between womanhood and motherhood/daughterhood, bringing to the forefront that which usually remains unspoken.
